Miners Announce "Passing The Game On" Program
The Southern Illinois Miners announce that they have partnered with Rent One and River Radio to create Passing The Game On, a Miners Charity program to help make America's pastime accessible to under-resourced players and families across the Southern Illinois region.
As part of the program, the Miners will collect new and gently-used baseball and softball equipment at all Rent One stores throughout the region, as well as the box office at Rent One Park and the office at River Radio. Rent One Park is located at 1000 Miners Drive in Marion, while River Radio is located at 1431 Country Aire Drive in Carterville. The collection will begin immediately and last through May 1, 2019.
Miners Charity, a registered 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization, will then distribute this equipment to boys and girls across the region who desire to, but lack the equipment and/or resources to play. Distribution information will be announced soon.
All new or gently used equipment is welcome for donation, including gloves, cleats, bats, helmets, catcher's gear, baseballs/softballs, and more.
In addition to the equipment drive, the program will include fundraising by the Miners to help minimize the cost for youngsters to play in local recreational leagues. Also, at a later date, the Miners will announce plans to host sandlot games all across the area to pass on the love of the game.
"Our mission is to ensure that a lack of equipment never stops anyone from playing baseball or softball," said Mike Pinto, Chief Operating Officer of the Miners. "We share a passion for kids who want to play this great game, and thanks to the help of people who donate their used equipment, we can help kids all across the region play ball."
